Did You Chat With Alexa on Christmas? You’re Not Alone

It looks like a lot of people tried out Amazon’s Alexa on Christmas. The company’s voice assistant software was the No. 1 downloaded app during the holiday.

In the US, the Alexa app jumped to the top of Apple’s and Google’s official app stores, according to analytics firm App Annie. Since Thanksgiving, the voice assistant’s app rankings have been steadily rising.

Why the high download rates? The voice assistant is used in Amazon’s Echo devices, the company’s line of smart speakers, many of which likely showed up under Christmas trees around the globe. On Tuesday, Amazon said the Echo Dot, which goes for $29.99, was its best selling product during the holiday season.
