“Fallout 4” might be super addicting, but if you don’t practice moderation, you might just find your life in shambles.
One Russian gamer recently learned this lesson the hard way after losing his job and his wife following a three-week-long “Fallout 4” gaming session. According to a report from RT, the unnamed Siberian 28-year-old is now suing the game’s developer Bethesda, calling the post-apocalyptic first-person RPG too “addictive.”
The man is seeking 500,000 roubles ($7,000) in compensation for “emotional distress” caused by his epic gaming session.
He reportedly downloaded the title to his computer, and intended to play it just a couple nights a week. That plan quickly went out the window, and the man ended up on a three-week gaming binge, regularly skipping work and neglecting family and friends.
As you might imagine, this didn’t sit well with the people in his life. The man ended up getting fired, and his wife left him. On top of that, he says his heath started to deteriorate, because who has time to eat and sleep when there are so many monsters and mutants to kill?
“If I knew that this game could have become so addictive, I would have become a lot more wary of it,” the man said in a statement, according to RT. “I would not have bought it, or I would have left it until I was on holiday or until the New Year holidays.”
In his review of “Fallout 4,” PCMag’s Will Greenwald notes that the RPG offers “dozens if not hundreds of hours of gameplay across the various side quests.”
“You won’t soon run out of things to do, and you can expect to burn dozens of hours just goofing off in the wasteland even if you don’t touch the game’s main story,” Greenwald said.
Take that as a warning, gamers.
